Marina O'Loughlin Guardian reviewer named Restaurant of the Year

The Guardian Marina O'Loughlin was appointed appraiser Restaurant of the Year in the prestigious Fortnum & Mason food. The judges, including the World Food Programme BBC Sheila Dillon Broadcasting and Valentine Warner, said: "The jury was unanimous in their decision in writing to the Marina is well informed, illuminating and entertaining – and often not very accurate.".

O'Loughlin, who for the weekend magazine of The Guardian wrote since 2012, visit incognito restaurants, and so did not attend the ceremony. The award was accepted on her behalf by other nominees, Jay Rayner of the Observer and the Times Giles Coren in place.

Tim Hayward was named Financial Times food writer of the year, while Rose Prince of Telegraph won the award for writing kitchen. Alex Renton was nominated for the food writer of the year award for his work for the Observer Food Magazine.
